No! If a product has been rated across all four GreenScore® dimensions–nutrition, processing, food safety, environmental footprint–we list it on GreenChoice regardless of it’s rating and regardless of whether or not it is available on our marketplace. We believe in transparency and giving you the power to easily make informed choices that reflect your values.Using GreenChoice Research, you can lookup any product you're curious about to see its GreenScore® and "better alternatives" if any. We want to support you making great choices for you and the planet whether or not you’re shopping on GreenChoice or elsewhere.

To avoid perpetuating harmful diet culture, we don’t label foods as “good” or “bad”, but food can have positive and negative impacts on your health and the planet. A product’s total GreenScore® is the average of its four category ratings for: nutrition, processing, food safety, and environment. Every category rating is accompanied by a description that makes it easy to understand it’s significance. You can read more about the four GreenScore category ratings and their meaning on our GreenScore® rating method page.

Good question! Our Environment rating doesn’t consider packaging at this time, because we don’t yet have the necessary data to rate products on their packaging. The Environmental Footprint rating is based on the carbon footprint and water footprint estimates of the food or beverage item itself. We’re just getting started and working step by step. We’ve started by addressing the main driver of climate change – carbon emissions – and have added water footprint because of growing water scarcity associated with climate change.
